Jim Slaughter has been working in the stained glass field
for over 30 years, and for the past 15 years he has focused on
metalsmithing. Bringing these skills together, he now creates
what he thinks of as contemporary glass sculptures.
Jim uses the full spectrum of glass techniques, including
slumping, fusing, sandblasting, enameling (glass on glass) and
painting. The metalworking techniques he applies includes
plating and a unique style of electroforming to create table
and floor lamps, sconces, ceiling fixtures and torchieres.
Jim and his wife, Barbara Adams, have accumulated a
collection of over 500 shades of handblown glass, dating back
as far as the 1940's, to work from. He also works closely with
a local plating shop allowing him an extensive palate of metal
surface effects he can create.
Over the years he has maintained his original vision to
capture the beauty of glass through lighted works on a scale
that complements his clients' homes. While this site shows a
portion of his completed works that are now available, he
especially enjoys collaborating with clients on commission.
